About Rowing
Rowing as a competitive sport can be traced to the early 10th century when races were held between professional watermen on the River Thames in London.
Rowing is one of the oldest Olympic sports. Though it was on the programme for the 1896 games, racing did not take place due to bad weather, but male rowers have competed since 1900.
Our best Olympic athletes are Pedro Fraga and Nuno Mendes, which compete in the double scull lightweight category and have some remarkable results in this speciality.
The Nautical Sports Section of Associação Académica de Coimbra was National Clubs Champion in 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10, counting in its history more than 100 national titles at various levels, as well as the internationalization of several of its athletes, in World Championships, Universiades and other events.
The competition in EUG2018 will take place in the following categories:
• Men: LM1x, M1x, LM2x, M2x, LM2-, M2-, LM4-, M4-, LM4x, M4x, M8+
• Women: LW1x, W1x, W2-, LW2x, W2x, W4-, W4x, LW4x, W8+
