Judo (meaning "gentle way") was created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. It is generally categorized as a modern martial art which later evolved into a combat and Olympic sport.

In recent days with the implementation of the International Judo Federation World Tour, Judo is becoming a Top individual Olympic sport with a large representation worldwide.

In Portugal, we have Top Elite players who have won medals in European and World Championships. Telma Monteiro and Nuno Delgado are the most remarkable ones with a bronze medal in Olympic Games on their award list.
