About Judo
Judo (meaning "gentle way") was created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. It is generally categorized as a modern martial art which later evolved into a combat and Olympic sport.
In recent days with the implementation of the International Judo Federation World Tour, Judo is becoming a Top individual Olympic sport with a large representation worldwide.
In Portugal, we have Top Elite players who have won medals in European and World Championships. Telma Monteiro and Nuno Delgado are the most remarkable ones with a bronze medal in Olympic Games on their award list.
At the moment the Judo section of the Academic Association of Coimbra is one of the national reference clubs with several players taking part in the National Team. The European Universities Champion 2017 in the -48kg category, Catarina Costa is the most awarded.
The Judo section is present in the most diverse national and international competitions, as well as in other types of events, such as technical or competitive improvement stages.

Competition Program Judo
The competition will be held in individual tournament with the EJU Weight categories. The competition will also have on its program a Nage-no-Kata and Katame-no Kata tournament.

Uniforms
Obligatory Blue and White judogi; with or without official IJF back number. Kata tournament will be held in white judogi.
Rules and Regulations
The competition will be held following the EUSA Document for Rules and Regulations for the European Universities Games.
Competition Area/Field of Play
The Field of play and all the competition area and equipment will be present mainly based on the most recent Technical Regulations of the European Judo Union (EJU).
