3x3 basketball has, in some format or another, been played almost since the moment James Naismith got inspired and invented basketball in 1891. In some cities in the world every street corner has a 3x3 court, which makes it easy and accessible to everybody and is becoming popular in University sport. The game has many individual techniques for displaying skill—ball-handling, shooting, passing, dribbling, dunking, shot blocking and rebounding.

Each match lasts a maximum of 10 minutes, with a 12-second shot clock. It is played on half a court, with one hoop. There is no halftime, and no quarters or no time-outs. And it is typically accompanied by non-stop music, DJs and break-dancers.

Competition and Training Venues

The competition will take place in Coimbra’s University Stadium – 3x3 Basketball Venue in three basketball courts, with a capacity in the central Court for 300 persons. We will have nine dressing rooms for athletes and two dressing rooms for referees.

Uniforms

All teams have to bring 2 (two) different sets of uniforms, main colour light and the other dark. During the entire duration of the EUG competition each player must wear the same number.

Rules and Regulations

Competition will be held following the EUSA Document for Rules and Regulations for the European Universities Games.

Competition Area/Field of Play

The Field of play and all the competition area and equipment will be presented mainly in accordance with the most recent Technical Regulations of International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
