Figueira da Foz
Figueira da Foz is one of the most famous and popular beach resorts in the country and is located in a prime area 180 km from Lisbon, 120 km from Porto and 52 km from Coimbra. Its history is undoubtedly quite old, as proven by the dinosaur’s footprints found in Cabo Mondego. Its 4 km-long fine golden sandy beaches, and the sun and the sea are attractions in the area, as well as its imposing Boa Viagem Mountain. A great viewpoint to admire the incredibly geometrical saltpans of the Mondego Estuary, with its ecosystem and beach cove, from Buarcos to Figueira da Foz. Saint Catherine’s Fortress might well be the perfect starting point for a pleasant walk, on foot or by bicycle, along the riverfront to Cabo Mondego.
The elegant early 19th century architecture details are worthy of note! Visiting the city for its historical heritage is a good enough reason to go there! Get a glimpse of the Art Nouveau and Art Déco architectural features in Bairro Novo, for instance, visible in the elegant and imposing architecture of the Sotto Mayor Palace. These are signs of a lively cosmopolitan atmosphere that began with the opening of the “Theatro- Circo Saraiva de Carvalho”, the current Figueira da Foz Casino. Together with the Performing Arts Centre, as well as the many bars, discos and esplanades, this is the perfect entertainment space for you to enjoy.

Cantanhede and Mira
Gândara, another name given to Cantanhede and Mira region, is characterised by its sandy beach, the leafy forest along this beach and its dunes, which extends along the coastline making it unique and magnificent!
Walks along the Atlantic Ocean bathed beaches are the ultimate sensation for a romantic stroll or family outing, on foot or by bicycle along the bike tracks and existing routes, where we can see the famous barns (where fishermen once lived) that have been restored to their original architecture. Watch the fishermen on the beaches of Tocha and Mira active in the traditional Arte Xávega – the fishermen use rowing boats and fish nets.
The Atlantic coast features contribute to making these beaches the ideal place for water sports, such as surf, bodyboard, windsurf or kitesurf. If you prefer calmer waters, try the Barrinha de Mira for other calmer sports activities: canoeing, rowing, among others.
