The eye of the volunteers - Day 20

European Universities Games is spreading the love for Coimbra

We are almost in the middle of the European Universities Games (EUG) and I must tell you: “In all my life I’ve never seen Coimbra more beautiful than these past days.” It’s like the city has flourished and re-born. Students from around Europe are here to participate in the games but they can’t help to fall in love with the city. The cultural activities are responsible for new Coimbra lovers. Visiting the touristic points are a must see, and of course, #selfies are a tradition when you visit the University of Coimbra, when you take a walk on the green park or when you climb the monumental stairs.

Everyone talks about Coimbra and the EUG. When I’m on the bus, the main topic of all conversations between passengers is the games. The other day I witness this talk: “What is that?”, asks someone very intrigued looking to a group of people with orange t-shirts and a sportive look. “It’s the European Universities Games!”, responds the bus driver that seems to know everything about the event. While I’m on a conversation with someone from the EUG that is from another country, Coimbra is always referred. “Oh, I’m in love with the city. I want to live here” it’s a common phrase that I’ve been hearing 24/7 which means all the time.

This situation is positive in all aspects for Coimbra, but tourism is the most important one. People from foreign countries loving the city vibes is great because when they post pictures of Coimbra in social media people fall in love too and when they get home, they will tell their families and friends how much the city is a good place to visit. It’s a snowball that puts Coimbra in the eyes of the world. Thank you European Universities Games, it’s been amazing.
