The European Universities Championships Judo, Karate and Taekwondo 2017 ended today in Coimbra after three days of intense competition for almost 600 hundred athletes. A year prior from the European Universities Games 2018, Coimbra, the host city of the EUG 2018, had a huge test for the Organizing Committee which allow them to see the biggest challenges for next year’s event.

This were only three of the 19 European Universities Championships 2017 (EUC 2017), where 19 different sports promote the competition to find the best European athletes and teams in Universities Sport.

The competition took place in three venues that will also feature in EUG Coimbra 2018: Halls 1 (Karate), 2 (Taekwondo) and 3 (Judo) of Coimbra’s University Sport Complex, in the city centre. All venues were renewed in the last months and are ready to receive about 600 athletes that competed in these Championships. The EUC’s 2017 also had about 150 officials and had both male and female competition. 50 volunteers were key to the success of the event.

The competition was organized by Coimbra’s University in partnership with the Portuguese Universities Sports Federation (FADU), Coimbra’s Academic Association (AAC) and Coimbra's Municipality.

The Judo competition hosted 195 athletes from as many as 103 Universities from 18 countries. While Karate hosted 220 athletes from as many as 108 Universities from 21 countries. Taekwondo competition hosted 157 athletes from as many as 83 Universities from 14 countries.
