EUSA Supervision Commission visited Coimbra

EUSA Supervision Commission was in Coimbra during three days to follow-up all preparations for the European Universities Games (EUG) Coimbra 2018. The Commission was lead by EUSA’s Vice-President, Haris Pavletic, Secretary General, Matjaz Pecovnik, and Sports Director, Besim Aliti, in a total of five representatives.

During this visit, EUSA’s Commission had several meetings with the Organizing Committee, and subjects like sport progress, sport venues, human resources, national federations, sport equipment, result management, accommodation, catering, and transport operations, ceremonies, volunteers, among other subjects, were discussed.

One of the key moments was the inspection visit of the sport venues, that happened Monday, at the University Stadium, where EUSA’s Supervision Commission saw all progress related to the venues and related construction in public areas.

For Haris Pavletic, EUSA’s Vice-President, “the organization has several challenges ahead, mainly regarding accommodation and transportation. But we are sure everything will go as planned. This EUG’s fourth edition will surely be a success we can remember in time”.

Mário Santos, Organizing Committee Secretary General, highlighted that “the organizing structure will increase in the following months and that will be key to assure the success of the event”. And added “the legacy will be enormous for Coimbra. The university community will largely benefit from all the venues renewal, allowing Coimbra to be a reference in Europe for dual careers”.

Daniel Monteiro, President of Portuguese University Sport Federation, talked about the Portuguese Government commitment with the organization. “We are working close with the Portuguese Government. We are closing the funding contract for the event and we have a strong commitment from their side which is very important to assure the success of EUG 2018”.

This visit helped define the next steps towards the EUG 2018, which will occur in July 2018.
