Cadets Portugal Bicycle Tour presented in Coimbra

The Cadets Portugal Bicycle Tour was today presented in University of Coimbra, one day before the start of the competition. Coimbra, host of European Universities Games (EUG), was the stage chosen for this official presentation. Coimbra’s Universities Residencies will be the accommodation of the athletes competing.

This is the 10th edition of the Cadets Portugal Tour and all teams were presented to the media and guests in University of Coimbra followed by a sports round-table debate about the importance of young athletes to reconcile their academic studies with their sporting career, which should always have ethics as the main value.

One of the speakers was Ivo Oliveira, one of the most promising youngsters in Portuguese Cycling, alongside with representatives of University of Coimbra, Anti-drugs Portuguese authorities and the Portuguese Olympic Committee.

The competition will start this Friday and will end on Sunday, occurring at the same time as Portugal Bicycle Tour, which will start this Friday as well. All athletes from the Cadets Portugal Bicycle Tour will stay in Coimbra’s Universities Residencies during the competition, the same rooms that will accommodate the EUG Coimbra’s 2018 athletes, the more than 4000 who are expected to compete next year.

This event happens within the scope of a protocol to be celebrated soon between University of Coimbra/EUG 2018 and the Portuguese Cycling Federation. The details of this protocol will be unveiled in the weeks to come.

The European Universities Games (EUG) Coimbra 2018 are less than one year from their start. An amazing experience for more than 4000 athletes from 40 countries and 350 universities, competing in the historic University City of Coimbra, in Portugal, in an event that will have more than 1000 volunteers.

From July 13th to the 28th, Coimbra will be the centre stage of the European Universities sports. This will be EUG’s 4th edition. The first took place in 2012, in Cordoba, Spain, the second was in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2014, and the third edition was hosted by Zagreb and Rijeka, Croatia, a year ago
